A local view is just that. Poems about my immediate locality with one of two that have strayed in from farther afield – ‘Offshore Wind’ for one. I see them as kind of verbal cartoons – think what Giles could have made of them.
The war poems were written in 2014 and then ‘Centenary’ in 2018. I put them in as memorials to both that time 100 years ago, and for the centenary – but I have kept them separate from today’s poems as I believe it is time we remembered it in a different and more forward way, instead of stuck in the past. This is why I ended with ‘Offshore Wind’, heralding a new invention and one suitable for the age of Climate Change.
